Suspended load
Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019, defines suspended load as: ‘Sediment that travels at almost the same velocity as the water that transports it and is prevented from settling by the effects of flow turbulence.’
Groynes in coastal engineering (CIRIA C793), published by CIRIA in 2020, defines suspended load as: ‘The proportion of sediment transport which occurs as a result of sediment grains being supported within the water column by the effects of turbulence. Such sediment is washed along by currents.’
